This was my first oil change. When I opened the lid, there was a small hole in the center and a plug which can securely close the hole. The hole is not that large, so you may need to adjust the speed of oil drain, otherwise oil may overflow. This was only a minor problem, however. I could easily drain oil (5 qts) without making a mess. Once I was done, the plug and all the caps (the small one on top for air flow and the large one on the side for oil drain) could be closed securely, and I could drive to the nearest autozone store to empty the Mess Buster without making a mess in my trunk or anywhere. Highly recommended.
